Ocean Grove and its nearby neighbour Barwon Heads, is a beautiful and growing coastal town south of Geelong on the Bellarine Peninsula. The population is now approximately 18, 000.

Once considered by many to be a place only for retirees, the demographic profile has changed markedly over time with many families moving to the area. It’s not hard to see why with the relaxed coastal life, sea air, excellent cafes and restaurants. And although it feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of capital city life, Ocean Grove is only an hour and a half from Melbourne and a short drive to Geelong. Shopping and schools are good and public transport from Geelong into Melbourne is excellent.

How do mobility scooter users find convenience of travel and access? Long-time local resident Sue commented, “I’ve lived here for 40 years now and the funny thing is that back in the day Ocean Grove was strictly a place for retirees. Well I’m a retiree but the place has changed, it’s a real draw card for families. Apart maybe from the six weeks of peak summer holiday time it is a relaxing place to live and has a real community feel. The town is flat and easy to get around in my scooter and access to the shops and community facilities is really good.”
